VisitHero — a practical map for visitors in Japan

VisitHero is a free, multilingual map and AI assistant for foreign visitors and residents in Japan. It answers the questions that come up after you step outside: where the nearest toilet is, whether you may smoke on this street, where to leave a suitcase, which ATM takes a foreign card, and where to go when something has gone wrong. It works without an account in English, Japanese, Korean, French, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

Coverage currently spans Yamaguchi, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Tokyo and Osaka, built from OpenStreetMap together with national and municipal open data — including the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan's designated evacuation sites, city AED registers and municipal public-toilet lists. Every place card shows where the record came from and when it was refreshed, and facilities are marked step-free only when the source states it. Outside those areas VisitHero looks the place up live, so it can still answer.

Local rules matter as much as locations. Many Japanese city centres fine street smoking outside designated areas, so VisitHero shows both where smoking is allowed and where it is prohibited, with a link to the ordinance it came from. Emergency guidance — police, first aid, hospitals, shelters, a lost passport — never carries advertising.
